HoRNet AutoGain Pro

The advanced volume automation and leveling tool

Advanced volume leveling

The AutoGain Pro works using an external reference or an internal one, listens to your signal and tries to keep it at the same level of the reference signal, the way it does it it’s up to you, you have many parameters to tweak until it reacts perfectly.

Fine tuned Volume Automation

The AutoGain Pro exposes all the internals of the original AutoGain, while its small friend has a simple “speed” control, the AutoGain Pro gives you total control on attack and release for both the reference signal and the main one, it also allows you to set a minimum and maximum gain for the processors, that can also be reversed making it work like a “ducker”

Visual gain display

Still works like the classic

Do you need to adjust the “speed” simply move the main or reference “release” control, they are linked, and work like the original “speed” control of the AutoGain.

Use the level gain for an improved “sensitivity” control and the gain range for the original “range” control.

With The AutoGain Pro you have the original AutoGain just a click away, and with graphical gain display too!

Video Overview

Demo limitation

The demo is fully functional except for the fact that every now and then it will silence out, you cannot save parameter values with your session and the plugin will not respond to automation coming from the host.

Copy protection

The HoRNet AutoGain Pro has no copy protection, I don’t believe in copy protection, they are always cracked and they are annoying for the users, we all know you are not going to give away the plugin on the internet…

So simply download the plugin and enjoy your recordings!

I was working on a particular inconsistent vocal track that would have been another month before I could get the singer to re-track. I tried another fader riding plugin and seem to make it over pump a little too much. I purchased and installed HoRNet’s AutoGain Pro and it was beauty right out of the gate (no pun intended). The song was released without the need to re-track. Thank you HoRNet.

Super quick attack times, min/max gain control, as well as peak/RMS tracking options. I’ve used every ‘rider’ out there and this is my favourite. And cheapest, might I add. For quick use, ‘classic’ mode is ya friend bruh. Easy and accurate settings. The Gain Scaler is also useful – essentially acting as Mix function when you want to scale back slightly on the effect. Absolutely no drawbacks. I use it in force on every project – and is my perfect tool for riding vocals pre-compression. GET IT.

If you need to get you vocals above you mix, this is the plug-in for you! The fact it writes automation for you is worth the price, saving you time in the studio to concentrate on details. A simple plug-in to use, just throw your mix through the plug-in, adjust the min. and max. gains and let it write your volume automation. In the time it would take to write your volume levels manually, you can complete an entire album with this plug-in! Works great on bass guitars to smooth dynamics without compression, saving computer resources. Compared to other similar plug-ins, this is a steal! We used this plug in on all main vocals on our release “Not Human” because, it just simply worked!!

HornetAutoGainPro = No Brainer !
This plugin is just great when it comes to mix vocals : no need to spend
time to do automation, it does for you ! And in comparison with other
“famous” brand, it is CHEAP ! And it does THE SAME JOB ! It is a
No-Brainer plugin, it saves tons of hours of work and just keep me focus
on main things to solve.

A great plugin that i can use to ride anything from bass to vocals to leads with some tweaks on the frequency filters, very user friendly and the price i cant help to feel i stole it compared to similar products from other brands hornet gives you value for your money and not only that it comes with the all the options you need something the big brands could take a lesson from

hornet is clearly not out to fill pockets and i appreciate that as a low budged producer

I have promised you on youtube that Im buying this! So I have purchased this today and Im happy I was given an advice on your plugins! Even though Im using UAD-2, I honestly think you are doing a great job and such plugins as this one are a very handy tool once you learn it well. Its almost like the Waves’ Vocal Rider but not quite the same. However I wish you add features or advanced processing code – like you know, sometimes people that give beats for the album are misusing the compressors and abusing the limiters and actually pack much more powerful sound into a flatter waveform, giving a headache during the full-album-mixing stage. Its a problem Im dealing with right now.

I can not make a judgment, because I simply do not understand the program. I also have MautoVolume from Melda, which I also immediately look through. This works great for me.
I’m a fan of Hornet, but AutoGain was a mistake for me. Unfortunately!

Took me a little while to get what I needed out of the vocal I was working on. In the end I duplicated the vocal track, compressed it pretty reasonably (2-3:1), and fed that into AutoGain Pro as the reference track. Well, all I have to say is, it’s a really powerful tool. With a little creativity I got what I wanted, which was to reduce the dynamic range of my vocal track through volume automation.

I bought Autogain Pro listed at 21 Euros without knowing there was a version 2 discounted at 3 Euros. Alright, it’s not an expensive plugin but I’m somewhat under the impression I have been tricked (MK1 is advertised on the front page while MK2 is not).

So I got the autogain first, trying to be a cheapskate, of course it worked well enough, but ultimately wasn’t as responsive as I was looking for. As I was about to bite the bullet and buy the ridiculously overpriced competitor when I spotted this, the autogain pro. I had demo’d the promk2 and it was just too much for my feeble little brain to handle at once. So I watched Saverios video after hearing such great things about this dude, and I took a chance with my hard earned 8 or 9 dollars, whatever it was after the discount, and got this little guy. This is what I was looking for all along. Kudos, props, and excellent work team Hornet.
All the adjustable fields are very reasonably adjusted and I had a sizzling vocal track ready for the master in about 5 minutes. I’ll be stopping here first for any new gadgets I’m on the hunt for, without a doubt.

Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

UHSDR AGC settings explained

Text and figures © DD4WH, under GNU GPLv3

We use this AGC by Warren Pratt which is part of the WDSP library. It was implemented for the UHSDR because it has some more features that might potentially be useful in very specific RX situations.

QUICK USER GUIDE FOR THE AGC:

  1. search for a free frequency –> band noise
  2. use encoder 2 to adjust the AGC threshold (“AGC”), so that the white text “AGC” in the blue AGC indicator box starts to disappear
  3. With button M2 toggle focus of encoder 2 to next box
  4. Adjust AGC mode according to your personal preference and your band situation: OFF = AGC off

the figure is the time constant = AGC WDSP DECAY for the AGC (given in centiseconds = milliseconds*10, that decay time is the time the AGC needs to increase up to maximum sensitivity again: thus 100 means 1 second). This is predefined for the different AGC modes, but can be fine-tuned in the menu –> AGC WDSP DECAY

The AGC can be very easily and quickly adjusted for any specific receive and noise situation. The WDSP AGC has double AGC detectors (one with short and one with long time constant, thus potentially better for a suppression of short noise impulses) and a hang AGC with adjustable hang time.

Figure 1: Relationship between input and output signal level WITH (A–>D–>F) and WITHOUT (A–>B–>C) an automatic gain control (AGC) with an indication of some of the WDSP AGC parameters that can be controlled by the user. Inspired by a paper by Phil Harman: “A discussion on the AGC requirements of the SDR1000” (I added the relevant AGC parameters for better understanding).

If you want to know mmore about how your AGC works, please read this paper and use figure 1 above to understand how the AGC works: Phil Harman (VK6APH): A discussion on the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) requirements of the SDR1000. – http://www.flexradio.com/downloads/vk6aph-agc-discussion-powersdr-pdf/

This paper is excellent, fun to read, instructive and essential for the full understanding of the functioning and the perfect adjustment for the WDSP AGC.

Because Phil has explained the AGC so well in his paper, I will now restrict myself to the explanation of the menu adjustments of the parameters implemented in the mcHF firmware and assume that the reader is well informed about how these parameters affect the AGC functioning.

AGC WDSP switch

choose between “Standard AGC” and “WDSP AGC”: please note that the S-Meter in old school style does not work when switched to “WDSP AGC”: the S-Meter is automatically switched to be based on dBm instead.

choose between predefined parameter sets for the AGC. AGC DECAY is the time needed until the AGC recovers from a strong signal to achieve higher gain for a low signal.

this is the most important WDSP AGC parameter. It determines the input signal level where the AGC knee is situated (see figure 1). AGC action only takes place for input signal levels exceeding this level. It is given as a gain figure in dB. If this threshold is too low, AGC action takes place with band noise leading to an amplification of band noise –> annoying hiss for RX. If it is set too high, AGC action starts only with very large signals and this can potentially lead to distortion in the ADC with large signals. There is an AGC indicator, a blue box right of the load indicator. If it says “AGC” the input signal level has exceeded the AGC threshold, which means AGC action is taking place. So it is very easy to adjust the AGC threshold:

Set AGC WDSP to FAST (for faster reaction of the AGC indicator box)

Set mcHF to a frequency without a signal (only band noise)

Adjust AGC threshold to the point where the blue AGC box display changes between ON/OFF or a little bit lower

Set AGC WDSP to FAST/MED/SLOW/LONG/very LONG again after your preference

Indicates the output signal level difference between very low input signals and very high input signals. If set to 0dB, every signal has the same volume and the RX sounds flat. A good sounding effect can be adjusted with settings between 3 and 10dB, but that is very dependent on the hearing habits and the personal preference of the user. Experiment with this, until you achieve a pleasant and non-tiring result.

AGC Hang enable

Enable the Hang AGC which works like this: Hang is enabled when the signal level exceeds the AGC hang time threshold. When the level decreases (no more speech, for example), the hang counter is enabled and holds the AGC gain constant for the hang time, and after the hang time has expired, the gain increases quite fast (the time until maximum gain is achieved again can be adjusted with AGC HANG TIME). AGC Hang feature is nice for medium to strong SSB signals.

Hang AGC: hang threshold and hang time fully adjustable

set AGC Hang enable to ON

set AGC Hang time to your prefered time period (in ms)

set AGC Hang threshold: while you are tuned to the desired signal, decrease the AGC hang threshold, until the AGC box changes its color to WHITE, decrease a little little bit further –> ready!

AGC-box in a nut-shell:

  • AGC-box is blue without text: AGC not working
(input signal is lower than AGC threshold)
  • AGC box is blue with text “AGC”: AGC is working on the signal
(input signal is higher than AGC threshold)
  • AGC box is white with text “AGC”: AGC is working, HANG AGC is enabled
(input signal is larger than AGC threshold AND larger than AGC HANG threshold.

If HANG AGC is not enabled, the box will always be blue.

AGC Hang threshold

for signals exceeding this level, the hang AGC is activated. For lower signals, nothing happens

if the AGC WDSP Mode is “OFF”, the user-adjusted figure for “AGC threshold” is taken as the “Fixed gain” in dB. Be very careful, with large signals without AGC, it can be very very loud!

This cannot be adjusted by the user and is a constant of 1 millisecond. This is desirable, because when a large signal appears, it is nice to have the AGC react very fast (1ms) in reducing the gain in order to save your ears from damage.

Description

AACGain normalizes the volume of digital music files using the Replay Gain algorithm. It works by modifying the global_gain fields in the mp4 samples. Free-form metadata tags are added to the file to save undo information, making the normalization process reversable. AACGain supports mp4/m4a files. Raw AAC files/HE-AAC/SBR are not supported. AACGain uses the same command-line user interface as mp3gain, and is compatible with the mp3gain Visual Basic GUI. It also integrates with iTunes using my iGain GUI.

A piece of cake setting it up. Extract all my audio as mp4a with Pazera Extractor and normalize with this. He-aac V1 or V2, if needed, I usely encode with EZCD Converter and check for clipping using Kantz’s Sound Normalizer 7.9.

Using this as recommended with the beta version of Mp3Gain 1.34 it works flawlessly. I extract my audio using Pazera 2.7 Audio Extractor- another superb freeware and run it through aacGain. AacGain will accept any mp4 extracted by Yamb(portable only as its installer wrecks your registry!) as raw or with extension mp4a. Heaac must be checked with other tools like the Sound normaliser 7 series. Great program!

necrosoft or whatever your name is stop writing lies about having to install iTunes for this program to work when it is clearly not true. aacGain is an excellent program, if used correctly, just a shame its development was stopped.

What nonsense to write you must iTunes installed. Don’t write such nonsense to mislead people! Everything works great!
